Sitting here watching pre-race coverage, and a few similarities between our world and theirs occur to me...

Team owners like dealers running a dealership (Sales & Service), sometimes struggling with the OEM (NASCAR) on issues like compliance and facility upgrades. Managers like Crew Chiefs bridging talent and support.

Think of other similarities?

Off Topic because I don't know anything about Nascar, but it has to do with comparisons to dealerships.

My gf is always nagging me to talk about my job but I never do. She wouldn't understand what a dealership workplace environment is like , let alone the "Internet sales vs. showroom Civil War" , so I don't bother trying to explain it to her.

However, we were watching MoneyBall the other day and I paused the dvd like 30 minutes into it, looked at her and said "Hunnie this is exactly what I deal with everyday. Substitute winning baseball games with selling cars; this is as good an explanation that you'll ever get.... Even the leading actor looks just like me."

I was honestly shocked at the similarities in the movie. The climax for me was the "I wanted to win here.... I wanted to win here..." soul searching scene in the Infield. I think we've all had that moment, I know I have.

Have you seen it John? I'd ask Doug, but I get the impression it doesn't have enough nudity for him to bother watching.

# Summary A dealer draws parallels between running a car dealership and managing a NASCAR team, suggesting both involve navigating OEM/league compliance issues and coordinating talent through management layers. While one commenter dismisses the comparison sarcastically, another validates the analogy by sharing how he used MoneyBall's organizational dynamics to explain dealership culture to his girlfriend, suggesting that unconventional comparisons can actually illuminate the complexities of automotive retail.
