Posting used car inventory overseas

AI Summary

# Summary A dealer asks about the profitability of listing used cars on overseas websites to tap into international demand, particularly for sought-after models. Responses confirm that while exporting used inventory can be viable (unlike new cars, which face brand restrictions), it requires navigating manufacturer regulations and warranty issues, with one example of a dealer successfully sourcing used cars under $20k for Southeast Asian buyers. The key insight is that overseas used car sales are possible but dealers should first research their manufacturer's export policies and warranty complications before pursuing this strategy.

I was wondering what everyone's thoughts are on posting used car inventory on oversea's sights.

I know that some cars and trucks are sought after in other markets. I was wondering if it would be worth the time and cost to make a few extra deals or even one extra high gross deal?

Broderick,

One thing you may need to do first is to check the import/export regulations from your make for new cars.

Also you may want to check about warranty on the new cars, the warranty for new cars in the US is managed by a different team than other countries.

I'm in Seattle and Canada being so close brings up a lot of issues depending on the manufacturer when it comes to selling cars to that market. I would imagine that exporting overseas will bring similar challenges.

I know a dealer who scours craigslist for certain models of used cars to sell overseas. He's got buyers from southeast Asia who give him the general specs and he works hard to fill their orders as quickly as possible. The cars are generally not more than 20k though.
