Process for Getting an Interview

Like most career fields, potential interviews are gained by submitting resumes to Internet Job Boards, Colleges, Company Sites, Referrals and so on. For some unsubstantiated reason, I'm feeling these are not the going to be as effective in the Automotive Sales Industry. Simply, I don't know if it would be appropriate to simply drop-by and introduce myself to the Hiring/General Manager or take my chances with the standard resume track. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

Looking for a Sales job at a dealership? Absolutely! Bring a mirror... show them you can fog it -- you'll be hired on the spot :lmao:

But seriously, I've hired a few salespeople in my day -- I would consider someone taking the initiative to personally introduce him/herself as a good thing. A couple of tips: get a haircut, shave, shirt & tie... jacket if you have one.

Good luck!!

Scott Eager asks whether job seekers in automotive sales should pursue traditional resume submission or take a more direct approach by visiting dealerships in person to introduce themselves to hiring managers. Experienced dealers confirm that personal initiative and face-to-face introductions are valued in the industry, with one respondent emphasizing that professional appearance (grooming, business attire) is essential when making such visits. The consensus is that dropping by dealerships to network directly is not only appropriate but actually preferred over relying solely on online job boards.
