^love the irony

More and more companies are telling their staff to come back to the office. I know most dealerships cannot run remote, but what about vendors and OEMs? Have any of your companies told you to come back yet?

It feels/seems like it's been more "laying off" than return to office in the vendor world.

100% this^ Companies hired like crazy during the pandemic to meet a red-hot economy. Now that things are cooling off it's easier to just lay off all those remote workers you over-hired. I've worked remotely with a few of you on these forums and we all know that not only is it possible, it's preferred for a lot of people. I'm currently an in-store employee but I made a deal with the GM that I could work from home. He still doesn't believe I get anything done but every Friday I'm at home, more productive than I would be commuting and being in the office.

The 'get back into the office' articles feel a little culture-warish but if I was sitting on billions of corporate office space I'd want people back in the office too.

Every time I see sales people and other dealership staff sitting around waiting for someone to walk through the door, I just think about how easy it would be to adapt those roles to hybrid. Do the business development at home, come into the office to close the deals.

We are full remote at work, but I work with a few dealers that let employees come and go as they please - the employee satisfaction you get in response to that relatively simple offering is quite substantial. Not all employees, but there is certainly a large contingent that is capable of managing their own hours and productivity indifferent of location.
