I'm in the market for a new video camera, the Flip is still very useful but I'd like to ramp up the quality on stationary "about us" type videos. I need something with a mic out so I can hook up some mics and/or wireless lapel mics. I'm buying by the end of the weekend and I'll post pics and some vids to let folks know how it is but first i need to get one...

Thank you for your help!

I was just at a camera store's trade show this morning and it's between a Sony and a Cannon I think. I figure I might as well go HD, youtube does a decent enough job with quality video, which will only get better and the cost of HD isn't all that big. For under a grand you can get a semi-profesional full on setup.

I think it's more of a capability thing. I haven't had any experience uploading HD videos but I trust that it will take forever. In this case I would tweak the output settings to still end up with a good product but not beyond the abilities of what YouTube or other free video services can broadcast.

The only argument I have for having HD is future consideration and any videos we would show on the display's around the dealership...including our customer movie theatre. In your opinion does it make sense to jump to HD, or will it be way overkill?

HD takes a long time to upload you think it's worth it?

HD doesn't seem to be that much more $$ and since most of the channels are accepting it I would say just go for it. If you get HD, most will also record in lower formats anyways.

Here is what we are recording on and so far has been great. HDR-UX20 | HDR-UX20 High Definition DVD Handycam® Camcorder | Sony | SonyStyle USA

The next camera will be HD but for now...BOOOM its all over. I'm not convinced I made the best choice but I went the path of the frugal, picking up a Sony Handycam.

I bought a demo and even sprung for some extended warantee, only because "If you don't use the warantee you get the full $ back."... not sure where the catch is but it seems pretty gimicky, and I bit. Just waiting on the bluetooth wireless mic that wasn't in stock and I'll be in full swing! Even the cheapest HD camera was still going to be about $250 bucks more. I'll bide my time and ship this one to one of our stores and get an HD within a year or so.

Thanks for the tips guys!

Good choice Mitch. I'm sure it will do what you need it to do. Nice price too!!

My favorite Sony Camera/Video EVER!!! DCRP Review: Sony Cyber-shot DSC-M2

Until the wife decided to "misplace it". They stopped making it a few years ago..I tell ya this thing was the shit AND I WAS PISSED!! Matter of fact I still get PISSED when I think about it.

To this day I don't think there has been a better Camera/Video Cam in one. It took awesome photos (for a 5MP) and MPEG movies.
