This was yesterdays news (literally), but it took a little over a day for it to settle in. And I'm truly upset.

Google closes their Google Reader service.

Google launched Google Reader back in 2005. I've been using it since it first launch, over 7 years ago. Well, I guess that's not entirely true since it's rare I log into the Google Reader interface itself but instead use it as the main feed/account behind the RSS apps and services I use on my iPhone and Mac. NewsRack being one of those services.

"As Google's social networking efforts turned to Google+, many predicted Google Reader's days were numbered."

"Still, an ardent group of fans -- some of whom led a protest of changes to Reader in 2011, and even began building a Reader alternative -- will no doubt be upset that a service that brought many of them together will be going away for good. And a whole ecosystem of apps that rely on Google Reader to power it will suffer the consequences." - Quoted from this article on Cnet.com

One of the features I loved for "Reputation Management" was the ability to quickly subscribe to a Keyword Search by RSS. Google Alerts was able to drive most of this but there are times I would have something hit my RSS feed (by saves keyword search) before I received the Google Alert.

Maybe im "old-school" but I still capture and read most of my news through RSS / Google Reader, so this will not only be missed, but has me quite pissed as I will now have to figure out another option and find a new RSS app.

The words of Sweet Brown "Ain't Nobody Got Time for That!"

Will you miss Google Reader as much as I will?

I hear Blackberry is making a comeback bud!

I heard the same ;)

Is it wrong that I still have my Blackberry plugged in and every so often I pick it up and run my fingers across the keyboard?

..And allow me to clarify - its not that used the Google Reader UI, I used it to "manage" my RSS subscriptions from one central location/service. That's what I'm most upset over. :)
