Hello all. New to the board, but so far has been a wealth of information. I appreciate reading all your opinions.

I pulled a report this morning to see what percentage of our emails are being read, in particular the first quote. I pulled the last 3 months and over that time 54% of our first quotes are being read. I have nothing to compare that to. Is that in line? High, low, average?

Thanks again!

Can't really answer your question, but I can tell you that, if a customer is asking about a car, and you send them a price, more than 54% are reading the quote. I understand a tad about the limitations that "email read" tracking methods face -- long story short, don't put much faith in that 54% number.

Ever see a stat to the effect of 30% emails read, but 50% response rate? Common because you really can't accurately gauge what your customer are actually reading.

I think it all depends on the area you are in. I'm from the DC/Northern Virginia area, and I know that just about everyone there is pretty tech savvy and uses their email. However, I now live in the south about 35 minutes from Charlotte-Douglas Airport. Many have just discovered the internet and email over the last few years. I know that sounds strange, but that's how it is. This is why I am constantly on the phone following up after my emails. I don't know what the percentage is that say they haven't seen my email, but it's pretty high. They were happy I called to follow up. That seems a bit strange since they were actually on the internet asking for information or quotes. You'd think they would check their emails, but they often do not. Besides, many people have "unknown" emails go directly to spam. All the more reason for phone follow up! :)
