Trying to pull inventory for our new website, we just switched to a new provider. Owner gave them DMS access with a phone dial up connection but it's too slow and times out, so that won't work. Owner doesn't want to have them install software on a computer or server that has access to the DMS (like a VPN setup).. I tried calling Nissan to see if they can just pull inventory from Nissan and that have no idea, so that won't work..

The owner doesn't seem to know how to pull the .CSV? Inventory file off the DMS either.. I have no idea as I don't really mess with the DMS system.. I was given the option to get the file and e-mail it to them to as a one time thing, but I can't even get the file.. ? Also I can FTP upload the file and have them install software own MY OWN server but that won't work unless I have access to pull the files myself..

So they are being super secure about it. Not sure what to do? Anyone with Nissan about to have it pulled from Nissan directly? I'm out of options here..

Web Project Management 101
ALL of the automotive website providers use 3rd parties to work the DMS

If your role is Web Project Manager, you are the architect on the job. When you recruit a new web vendor your FIRST Question is:

#1: Do you have experience in our industry
#2: Which vendor do you use to access our DMS?

Question #1 is simple. Less experience simply makes your job as Project manager far more complex (read: add time to project completion date).

Question #2 will answer your DMS questions and address your internet merchandising opportunities.
