I learned a TON working at a dealership and had a pretty good teacher to show me the ropes. Mr. Mondello, you taught me all I know about this crazy industry and I'm really thankful for that!

I accepted a job with a marketing company called Mittcom who is revamping their automotive section. There I will be the Paid Search Manager and will try and grow the business as much as possible.

I love this industry. I've only been in it a year now, but I have definitely found where I want to focus my career. So keep an eye out for my new company at these conferences/events! Hopefully I can work with some of you in the future!

Very sad to see you go Charlie but at the same time I am very happy for you and excited for all that I know you will accomplish. Your new company doesn't even know how spoiled they are to have you. Good luck and please keep in touch!

Dan,

There are 2 types of people at the dealer:

The ones that sell cars
The ones that don't

The ones that don't are: vendors, internet IT people, office people, the people that clean, lot attendants, etc.
You are a vendor to them that has a monthly retainer and a non compete with the other dealers.

Working on both the dealer and vendor side I can advise this:
- Be prepared to be lied to often
- Don't let a the constant complaining/yelling of the uneducated get to you
- Whatever the product and/or service sold, make sure you have a 30-day FREE trial. And waiving the setup fees will be your hook, line, and sinker ..

In all seriousness, working for a vendor generally is considered an upgrade. You have a larger sample size of data to work with which will be a huge advantage. So assuming you want to constantly be learn and grow .. it's the way to go.

Ouch! I'm not sure one can differentiate a statement like that between any side of any industry. That just comes with the territory of "who you work for." Certainly hasn't been my personal experience on either side of the dealer or vendor fence. But I chose who I work for very carefully ;)

If you're referring to clients of vendors or customers of dealers....well....customers are customers. Set your own expectations accordingly.

:iagree: with this part though!

I will add something from my own experience. After 10+ years in dealership sales/marketing I was busy daily. After 4 years on the vendor side I now know that I just *thought* I was busy in my dealership roles. Be ready to work harder, faster, smarter, and longer as a vendor.

Good luck on the new endeavor
