TrueCar, Barbara Streisand and Crisis Management Failure

I'm 15 miles from the Maryland - Virginia boarder. I was under the impression that zag charges VA dealers a monthly fee as opposed to a per deal fee. I was also under the impression that this enables zag and the dealer to loophole the law. I know for a fact that VA dealers use zag/truecar because they come up in buyers top three with me (yes we use zag, not my call) .
Checkered flag is in VA , maybe Alex can chime in to clear this up for us.

I get the feeling VA dealers are operating under both models from what VADA said. They did talk about monthly model briefly, but said some dealers are still doing the per deal model under old agreements.

Sorry for the late response but I wanted to be sure before responding and I have not heard anything back on this. I assume Checkered Flag is paying a monthly charge. This is what we did for any pay-by-the-lead service provider.

The man with the contract is on vacation and I won't be back in VA till Christmas.

TrueCar issued a well crafted PR statement yesterday SAYING all the right things. Within 24 hours a TrueCar employee (Charles Kim) and and investor (Steven Dietz) took to the ADM blog to actually argue with community members. The display of arrogance (and lack of confidence in their leadership) is astounding.

Their new PR firm must be about ready to quit.

Thanks for the FYI Ed.

How bad did it get?

As I said in my post on the blog yesterday, looking at the history behind the company and the people associated, ones conclusion is this is nothing more than a PR stunt.
Pretty bad Jeff. Charles threw down the gauntlet saying he could out-consult anyone in the room. He basically destroyed the Public Relations firm's work.

Oh my.

TrueCar really stepped in it this time! One of their main investors and a member of their board, Steven Deitz, has been on ADM trying to justify their existence. Tonight he sent Jim Ziegler a message:
Jim: Your opinion on how I manage my personal business has little merit considering how poorly you've managed your own personal life. I have enough class not to post this publicly.
...along with a mug shot he found online of Jim's son.

The offense was pretty minor (driving with a suspended license after having it taken a way for drag racing AND it was from a few years back as well).

This appears to be a blatant attempt to shut Jim up. Instead it FIRED Jim up. He posted the message, the mugshot, the whole works.

How any company can mishandle things this badly is beyond explanation.

Really speaks to the "expertise," if not intelligence level, of their management strategists, no?

Absolutely classless. I don't hang around investment bankers. I'm pretty sure that is a different crowd. With most of the people, that I know in the car business, if you say negative things about their family members, you might find yourself on your ass.

Are you serious? I've missed out on this action. Been traveling too much. That's amazing. I can't believe someone would actually send an email against Jim or anyone for that matter while representing a company that's under such scrunity. Wow.
